South Carolina Forces Three Turnovers To Defeat Florida 38-19

GAINESVILLE, Florida (FLAN 35) — The Florida Gators moved the ball against South Carolina but could not overcome three turnovers in a 38-19 loss to the Gamecocks on Saturday.

Florida finished with 387 total yards, just six fewer than South Carolina’s 393. The Gators also recorded 267 passing yards and 120 rushing yards while converting 27 of 36 pass attempts.

However, two interceptions and a third turnover proved costly for Florida, which finished the game without a takeaway of its own. South Carolina protected the football throughout the contest.

The Gamecocks also held an advantage on third down, converting 10 of 16 attempts (62.5%). Florida converted six of 13 opportunities (46.2%), limiting its ability to sustain drives at the same rate.

South Carolina totaled 279 passing yards and 114 rushing yards. Although Florida narrowly outgained the Gamecocks on the ground, averaging 3.2 yards per carry compared with South Carolina’s 3.1, the Gators could not turn their offensive production into enough points.

Florida committed five penalties for 30 yards, while South Carolina was flagged six times for 53 yards.

The defeat underscored a difficult lesson for Florida: moving the football is not enough when turnovers and third-down execution determine the outcome.

Despite producing nearly identical yardage, the Gators left the field with a 19-point loss after South Carolina capitalized on Florida’s mistakes.
