Florida Invests Nearly $188 Million In Rural Health Care
TALLAHASSEE, Florida ( FLAN 35 ) — Florida announced nearly $188 million in awards in August to expand health care access in rural communities. The funding supports more than 80 projects across 31 rural counties. State officials said the investments will support rural hospitals, clinics, health centers and workforce development. The communities involved are home to nearly 1.2 million Floridians. Rural health care has remained a significant challenge as smaller communities face physician shortages, hospital closures and limited access to specialty care. State officials said the funding is intended to strengthen local health systems while creating additional opportunities for health care workers. The investment is part of Florida’s Rural Health Transformation Program. The program is expected to provide additional resources to communities where residents often travel significant distances to receive medical care.
