Florida Schools Advance As T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights Names Top 40

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (FLAN 35) — Two Florida high schools are among 40 finalists nationwide competing for a chance to win $1 million in facility upgrades through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition.

Columbia High School in Lake City and Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola were selected among the 40 schools advancing to the next stage of the nationwide competition.


Each finalist receives $25,000 and a T-Mobile-hosted Home Game Celebration. Fans can now vote once daily through Oct. 25, with the top school in each of four divisions advancing as a division champion.


The South Division includes both Florida schools along with finalists from Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.


Each division champion will receive $250,000, a Gronk Fitness gym valued at $90,000 and a $5,000 student leadership award. The four champions will then compete for the grand prize.


The final voting period runs Oct. 29 through Nov. 8, with the $1 million winner scheduled to be announced Nov. 12.


The competition attracted nearly 2,500 school applications nationwide, according to T-Mobile.


Former NFL star Rob Gronkowski and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes are serving as ambassadors for the program.


Florida fans can vote once per day at FridayNight5GLights.com or through the T-Life app using a valid mobile phone number.
