New Election Law Focused On Voter Eligibility in Florida

THE VILLAGES, Florida (FLAN 35) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the Florida SAVE Act creating another major change to the state’s election laws.

The legislation focuses on voter eligibility and election administration, with state officials saying the measure is designed to ensure that only eligible citizens participate in Florida elections.

The law became part of Florida’s broader effort to strengthen election security and verification procedures.

Supporters described the legislation as an election-integrity measure, while voting-rights advocates have raised concerns about how additional verification requirements could affect eligible voters.

Florida has continued implementing election-law changes since the 2020 election, making voting procedures a recurring political issue.

The 2026 law adds another layer to that debate as Florida prepares for future statewide and national elections.

Election officials across the state will be responsible for implementing the new requirements.
